Let $G$ be a periodic group containing an involution $i$ and suppose that the Sylow 2-subgroups of $G$ are either locally cyclic or generalized quaternion. Does the element $iO_{2'}(G)$ of the factor-group $G/O_{2'}(G)$ always lie in its centre?
